2. Biodiversity
conservation work in Yunnan
Yunnan has gained
good achievement in biodiversity conservation led by strengthening
the development and management of nature reserves and conservation
of rare and endangered species.
Nature reserve
development trend is good
Since 1958, when the Menglun Nature Reserve in Xishuangbanna
, the first nature reserve in Yunnan was established, the
development of nature reserves have stepped forward stably.
Its total area and quantity have been increased fast, the
input was increased, the management level was also improved.
In general, nature reserve management is on the standardization
and scientization path.
By the end of 2002, there are 160 different types of nature
reserves were set up in the province with total area of
2,994,217 hectares, which accounts for 7.6% of the terrestrial
area of the province. Among those nature reserves, 10 are
at national level, 54 at provincial level, 43 at municipal
level and 53 at county level. The number of nature reserves
places number one in China. A nature reserve network with
various types of nature reserves at different levels is
in place.
Xishuangbanna Nature Reserve and GaoliGongshan Nature Reserve
have been identified as part of the Human and Biosphere
Conservation Network by UNCEF and became the first batch
of nature reserves in Yunnan in this network.
160 different types of nature reserves were set up in the
province
with
total area of 2994217 hectares
accounts
for 7.6% of the terrestrial area of the province.
