3. Industrial Solid Waste

34.17 million tons of industrial solid wastes were produced across the province, of which hazardous wastes were 117,100 tons or 0.3% of the total. The amount of industrial solid waste discharge was 1.2167 million tons, of which hazardous solid wastes were 0.06 tons. Compared with the previous year, the amount of industrial solid waste produced and discharged respectively decreased by 0.4%, 47.5%.

The main sectors responsible for the discharge of industrial solid waste were mining and ore-dressing of non-ferrous metal and coal, and the chemicals industry. The main areas in which industrial solid waste discharge were concentrated included Kunming , Zhaotong and Qujing Cities .

Measures and Actions

Industrial Solid Waste Treatment

The total investment in the treatment of industrial solid waste was 24.447 million Yuan. 54 projects were completed with an increase in capacity of 61,900 tons/day. 13.6894 million tons of industrial solid wastes were comprehensively recycled and reused, covering 39.8% of the total amount. 136.524 million tons were stored, covering 39.95%; 13.6524 million tons were disposed of, covering 20.5%; and 1.2167 million tons were discharged, covering 3.56%, which decreased by 3.24% compared with the previous year.

Hazardous and Medical Waste Treatment

Regulations on the Management of Pharmaceutical Wastes were enforced. Preparatory work was comprehensively started for Two Centers for the Collective Treatment and Disposal of Hazardous Wastes (including Medical wastes) and Fourteen Facilities for the Collective Treatment and Disposal of Medical Wastes, which were designed according to the Construction Planning on Disposal Facilities for Hazardous and Medical Wastes.

Hazardous Waste Management

8096.43 kg of rat poison, which is extremely poisonous not only to rats but also to humans, were confiscated and carefully disposed of. Daily management operations for this were regulated in accordance with Measures on the Management of Duplicated Form for Transfer of Hazardous Wastes. Preparatory work for ¡°The Provincial Center for Hazardous Wastes Registration and Transfer¡± begun in light of the requirements of the State Environmental Protection Administration and Construction Planning on Disposal Facility for Hazardous and Medical Wastes of China.
